In just one year’s time, Kevin Bates went from being a 19 year old man-child living an ordinary life in New Orleans to a full grown orphan-man of faith with a teenaged sister to look after. Where most would have fainted, he instead emerged a diamond who is today a published author, a college graduate with a B.A. in English, a youth leader, and a minister.
Kevin J Bates grew up in an Apostolic home New Orleans, LA. There, he attended Philadelphia Apostolic Church with his immediate and most of his extended family. In 2005, when Hurricane Katrina forced them to evacuate, Kevin and his family moved to St. Louis, MO upon invitation from his uncle. Just one year after relocating to St. Louis, both Kevin’s parents were tragically killed in a car accident.
During the evacuation, Kevin and his family were stuck in McComb, MS for 15 days before anyone knew they were there. Kevin chronicles this journey in a new book called Evacuated. After having seen more trauma than most 3xs his age, Kevin can now testify to the keeping power of the Word of God in his life. His unmoving faith keeps him from anger and depression, and keeps him focused on being a faithful witness for Christ. He is also heavily involved in the youth and drama ministries at Faith Miracle Temple Apostolic Church.
